Capital Jazz Fest – June 1-3
Capital Jazz Fest kicks off with a lineup of star jazz and soul musicians including jazz vocalist and guitarist George Benson and R&B vocalists Marsha Ambrosius, Musiq Soulchild and Anthony David. D.C.’s own jazz a capella, Afro Blue Vocal Band — finalists on NBC’s The Sing Off, will also perform during the weekend festival. Tens of thousands from around the country flock to this concert each summer. Tonight’s event is hosted by rhythm and blues jazz singer Will Downing featuring legendary soul singer Anita Baker and actor/musician Bill Cosby. Show starts at 6:30 p.m. The concert also continues on Saturday and Sunday where doors open at 10:00 a.m. Tickets range from $52.50 – $100. Read more.

From U Street and Brookland to the Kennedy Center and Adams Morgan, world renowned jazz artists and local musicians will fill the city with 10 days of jazz. National artists include international “Afropean” duo Les Nubians, jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, The Roy Hargrove Quintet and a number of local artists including Akua Allrich and Marshall Keys Group. Zoso – June 2
Ever wanted to see Led Zeppelin in the prime of its career, but either were too young, or just weren’t born yet? Well, time for
you to check Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience. Since 1995 this foursome has taken the stage in the hopes of recreating one of the biggest bands in rock history. Zoso is something that all Zeppelin fans should experience. They’ll be playing at the Fillmore in Silver Spring. Show starts at 8:00pm. Tickets are $15.
Punk Rock Karaoke – June 3
Tired of the same old 80s and 90s hits for karaoke? Head over to the Black Cat Backstage on Sunday night for some good old-fashioned Punk Rock Karaoke! From 8pm-12pm you can rock out and sing along with some of your favorite punk classics, as well as a few obscure songs. Punk Rock Karaoke is a benefit for the DC Zine Fest, and is hosted by PunkRockChicago.com. Doors are at 8:00pm. Cover is $8.
Dengue Fever – June 6
The eclectic pop sounds of Dengue Fever will rock the 9:30 Clubnext Wednesday. Dengue Fever is
known worldwide, from LA to the UK, for having a distinct psychedelic sound. The band incorporates keyboard, sax, bass and drumbeats while singer Chhom Nimoi brings the sound together, strengthening the mixed Cambodian/American feel. Later, Omar Souleyman will grace the stage to perform his original folk-pop Syrian music. Get ready for a great night to enjoy the alternative music scene. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.
Jimmy Cliff – June 7
Legendary reggae musician Jimmy Cliff has been touring and making music since 1962. And now, after having released his first album of new material since 2004, “Sacred Fire EP,” Cliff has shown that he has no signs of slowing down. Teaming up for this EP with Rancid’s frontman Tim Armstrong, Cliff was able to capture the energy of his earlier 70s work, recording most of the songs with a band of more than a dozen musicians and singers. He’ll be taking the stage at the 9:30 Club on Thursday June 7. Doors are at 7pm. Tickets are $40.
