A Loss For Words

Warped Tour is a lot of work (RELATED STORIES: Vans Warped Tour Makes A Stop At Merriweather). Any band who has played it knows what a commitment it is. The constant travel, putting up with the ungodly heat and performing almost every night—it can take a toll on you quickly. But for up and coming bands like pop-punk quintet, A Loss For Words, being a part of Warped is a great way to connect with fans and spread their name. DC Music Live caught up with bassist Mike Adams and drummer Christian Mullen to talk about their summer on Warped Tour.
“Yeah, it’s a lot of hard work,” said Adams. He and Mullen had been out most of the morning meeting fans and selling copies their latest albums, No Sanctuary and Such Gold/A Loss For Words split EP, which released last year. “We hustle a lot of CDs,” Adams said looking at the cardboard box half full in Mullen’s hands. “Touring is hard work in general. But we love it.”
According to Adams and Mullen, so far, the fan response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“The crowds have been awesome—they’ve been so good. You know, sometimes [we] get the 11:15 slot, which everyone gets and kids will show up late and tell us they were bummed that they missed us. But fortunately we get to play an acoustic set too. So if they miss one, they can catch the other. It works out well for the fans.”
The band just released an acoustic EP, Returning to Webster Lake in June.
When they have off days, Adams and Mullen and the rest of the guys in ALFW enjoy their freedom but the work never stops.
“Yesterday, we were off, we just hung out and swam all day. [We] went to a sushi restaurant. The 1000th episode of “Monday Night Raw” was on, so I was just in a room by myself—no one talk to me, you know? But we stay out there and try to sell CDs, talk to fans, get our name out there. I think more bands should do it than actually do it. It’s good exposure,” said Adams.
The grueling schedule is enough to put any band out of commission after the summer’s over. But A Loss For Words has no plans of stopping.
“We are going to do a slew of dates in Russia. Then we’ll be in the UK for about 3 weeks. It’s going to be amazing.”
