Easy 5/5 for a lifelong Zelda fan (I absolutely recommend getting the hero's edition - it really elevates the whole experience even more with the included extras.) If you enjoyed Breath of the Wild you will LOVE this book! It's obvious how much work they put into it. You get to see early concepts of characters, props, landscapes, tons of illustrations, extra information, all with creators' notes and so much more. If you enjoyed Breath of the Wild you will LOVE this book! It's obvious how much work they put into it. You get to see early concepts of characters, props, landscapes, tons of illustrations, extra information, all with creators' notes and so much more. The book takes you by the hand and shows you around Hyrule; how it was built by the Nintendo team and what thoughts and ideas went into it. There are so many small details and random bits of information, it really makes the world feel even more fleshed out. I absolutely adored that. I loved seeing how the characters came to be, how the different regions were developed, etc. ... As someone who's persuing a career in this field it inspires me greatly. I also think that from an artistic and story telling perspective, you can draw plenty of things from this book. Aside from the development process, the book also delves into the history of BotW's Hyrule, starting all the way back more than 10.000 years ago until the present time. They tell the story of each race and how it was affected and shaped by past events, explain the origins of the ruins you come across when playing the game and really giving everything a new twist; a new depth. Makes revisiting those sides in-game a lot of fun. They both answer questions and add new mysteries at the same time. (Like the ancient Zonai people.) Lastly, you get to read interviews with the development team, learn about their thoughts, opinions and wishes for the series. They give great and interesting insights and it's a nice heart to heart talk. All this combined makes for a really intimate experience. I can only recommend this book, it was a pleasure to read and filled me with childlike excitement and even made me shed a tear. I hope you will enjoy it as well! ♥

I loved the designs and concepts found in this book! The developers notes were awesome to read and I just found the artwork breathtaking and beautiful! It made me a little sad though, seeing some designs that I liked more than what they actually turned out to be, such as Zoras domain and the motorcycle in the Champion of the Ballads DLC pack. It also made me sad to see Hyrule before it was destroyed, and to see the buildings and how big and wonderful it looked! A really awesome book, and I hope to read it a bit more carefully in the future to focus more on what was written than what was drawn.

I loved the game so much, and this book has a lot of background information on the characters and locations that they couldn't really fit in the game. It was a lot of fun to read and look at all that went into creating the game.

This was not what I thought it was, what I wanted was a player's guide not a coffee table book. I was very disappointed with this.

5/5 stars for the Hero's Edition An amazing (and heavy~!) addition to my Zelda collection! A high quality, full-color art book with a canvas cover and tons of insight into Breath of the Wild, plus a large cloth map, a commemorative photo from the actual game in a folding display, and superbly divine laser-etched glass Goddess orb in its own protective compartment! My favorite part of this whole set is opening the orb compartment because the flap says, "May the Goddess smile upon you." My favorite part of this whole set is opening the orb compartment because the flap says, "May the Goddess smile upon you." The book itself is largely very in-depth developers notes into BotW (and DLC) art and designs, such as the characters, clothing, locations, weapons, ecology of monsters, etc. It also includes brief insights into character development, as well as an extensive explanation of the BotW timeline and how it affected each race over a 10,000 year period. Eiji Aonuma specifically says that the BotW era doesn't fit into the timelines explained in the Zelda Encyclopedia because they wanted to leave it open for the players to speculate and for future development.
