Right after reading Issue #0, I had issue 1 waiting and this was an additional treat to see it written by Jody Houser and illustrated by Rachael Stott and colorist Enrica Eren Angiolini, this female team take our Doctor along a new adventure along with her new companions Graham, Yasmin, and Ryan. The first issue is short and leaves the gang in quite the predicament but knowing the Doctor, the next can issue can only lead toward a good time, as she and the gang try to save themselves and maybe sh Right after reading Issue #0, I had issue 1 waiting and this was an additional treat to see it written by Jody Houser and illustrated by Rachael Stott and colorist Enrica Eren Angiolini, this female team take our Doctor along a new adventure along with her new companions Graham, Yasmin, and Ryan. A very bland and basic start to a slightly below average feeling Doctor Who story with equally bland art in every aspect except for the faces which were so obviously traced from images of the actors that I could actually tell the exact moments from the show the artist was tracing from. Were it not for the awesome store exclusive cover I got, which features the main cast walking across Falls Park Bridge in a homage to Abbey Road, I would resell this to my comic book store for some store credit.

Somehow the scientist thieves displayed more personality than any of the main characters. Like we get their desperation, why they’re doing what they’re doing, and that they have moral lines they won’t cross. I’m interested to know more about their story and the beautifully-designed villain. I feel like this comes from the author having more freedom where they’re concerned. The tv doctor still hasn’t settled on a personality more defined than quirky and precocious, so that’s all we see in the boo Somehow the scientist thieves displayed more personality than any of the main characters. The tv doctor still hasn’t settled on a personality more defined than quirky and precocious, so that’s all we see in the book. The companions are still empty receptacles for the doctor to talk to and impress. What’s most irritating is that the companions have backstories that would allow for them to have distinct points of view but really they add nothing but mild reactions to the doctor’s antics. But again, show carryovers, not the comic’s fault. And we’re still early in the story. Nothing really has happened yet. Other than a lot of the doctor talking without anything being said. I guess that part is the comic’s fault.

I don't normally buy Doctor who comics, but with one about Jodie written by a woman and drawn by a woman I couldn't resist! It was great seeing her and the gang in the adventure! But it was just WAY too short. They looked at things there was a hole someone came out of, end of issue! Will probably pick this up as a graphic novel when there's a full story to be able to judge it by.

kinda hard to rate 30 odd pages of comic? they got the character voices down pat! and i like jody houser's writing in general. downside - i hate the art! doctor who comics tend to be weak in that regard.. why couldn't you get the cover artists to do the inner art, too? >:(
