The Veil should protect our world from the dangers on the other side. Now that I’ve negotiated my safety with the fae, I should be safe—even when crossing to the other side of the Veil. Protected by the strange magic in the Taker of Spells, I no longer worry as I once did. When alerted to power moving along one of the ley lines and forced to uncover the cause, I’m once aga The Veil should protect our world from the dangers on the other side. Protected by the strange magic in the Taker of Spells, I no longer worry as I once did. Struggling to stay a step ahead means discovering more about the chalice, but those who might know are the same ones chasing me. Not only the fae want it. Others with dangerous power come after me to take it from me. As I learn what the chalice can do, I begin to understand that no one should have that kind of power. Glad I continued The 1st book didn't draw me in really, but this one did. I want to know Cassie's heritage, I have a strong feeling I know, but I want it confirmed. I like the core group of Cassie, Max, & Jessica as well as the recurring characters like Jake. I look forward to reading the next book, and seeing what more we learn about all the characters. I did round up, I would give this book a 3.5 only because my preference is for more physical details. I know what certain characters look like, but others aren't really described. When I read it's like a movie, so I like when authors describe the characters physical characteristics it adds a lot. Especially in this UF genre, because there is so much competition in choices. I read about 4-5 books a day and have a photographic memory. It's gotten to the point where I read the books but am not invested unless the author really creates characters that I can picture, connect with, and has great world building. That's just me, I'm picky! Most other readers would probably give it a solid 4-5 stars. Definitely give it a try especially if you have Kindle Unlimited. There were very few grammatical errors, so kudos to that! I'm an editor & proofreader so those drive me nuts. I'd definitely choose to be a beta reader/proofreader for this author since I do see potential for the series. Definitely give it a try, I think each book will continue to improve.

For someone who has not read the other books set in this world, other than the first in this series, this a good continuation from the first book and is even easier to read. The reader doesn't have to know the difference between the Dark Mages and other mages or the Council; the differences don't really matter in this book (though I still would like a better understanding of them). The novel's basic story line is self contained without a cliffhanger but there are questioned not answered yet and things to be revealed. It is a series after all. Adventure abounds and it is fast paced. More of Cassie's past and Max's pasts are discovered but they lead to more questions. I would also like to know more about Jessica, though she plays a smaller role in this book than the last. This is a well-developed world with plenty of potential bad guys, plot lines and areas to relish. I look forward to the next one.

Excellent plot with interesting developments in the characters. Appreciated the introduction of Kate Michaels who started me on the journey with the authors works and will remain the firm favourite. Highly recommended.

This was a decent sequel. I had some of the same issues with it I had with book one - namely, a lack of world buIlding and character development. However, it was fun. I'm genuinely interested in the world, and in the main character's abilities, which really makes some of the obscureness frustrating. However, I did enjoy it. It was fast paced and exciting. I am ready for book three, whenever that releases!
