In between OK and LIKE Meet Ginni, designer witch. Unwilling pioneer, as she makes a life for herself in the mortal realm. The story was good, or could have been. I loved the originality and the twists and turns that I didn’t expect. It was light-hearted the way I like it. But then why didn’t I LOVE the book? Hard to pinpoint exactly, but it had to do with the style. I don’t think it was very well written. Or maybe the style just wasn’t to my taste. Hard to pinpoint exactly, but it had to do with the style. I don’t think it was very well written. Or maybe the style just wasn’t to my taste. For me, it didn’t work that the author continually disrupted the flow with sentences like: ‘A little while after.’ ‘One heck of a ride later.’ Well, let me in on that ride! IMO that’s not good for the continuity. I was pulled out of the story every time it happened; and it happened a lot. Just leave an empty line in between parts and work the text into the story. It felt like I wasn’t let in. It felt like there was a narrator instead of allowing me to immerse myself in the story. Plus there were bit like this: ‘At least, that’s what I thought. Turns out I was wrong. Who saw that one coming, right?’ I, the reader, now see it coming! For me that ruins the element of surprise and is lowering the suspense instead of heightening it.

I love cozy mysteries and this is a great paranormal cozy that I very much enjoyed. It was intriguing enough to keep me turning pages and only with regret, putting it down to go to sleep so I could get up and go to work. I love the characters in this story and since it is a #1, I'm hoping for more in this series, As with many paranormals, there are lots of fun characters and if you are a paranormal cozy lover, this is one of the best! I enjoyed reading this book. Most of the cozy mysteries that I have read is based in a library, book store, or a bakery. As a reader, I appreciated the change of scenery. While reading, I questioned myself about who the antagonist in the story was. I was able to figure that out towards the end. I appreciate a book that can hold back on those clues towards the end. I also questioned the ability of the main character. She stated several times in the book that she was able to feel magic in paranorm I enjoyed reading this book. She stated several times in the book that she was able to feel magic in paranormal beings, but I did think that she would have felt the same coming from her best friend, especially as a powerful witch. This is an overall good read that does not fail to pull the reader in and become lost in the plot. Can't wait to read more. I received this advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own.
